Arlen Specter may be way behind in the polls, but it’s now clear that he won’t be going down without a fight. In a new ad, he attacks Pat Toomey for selling credit default swaps on Wall Street.
Clearly Specter has only one advantage at this point: his impressive warchest, and so he’s trying to extinguish Toomey while he still can. But given his numbers, my guess is that it won’t work, and that he’s really only bloodying Toomey for us, saving the DSCC the money later.

It’s not often that I have so much to say.
Shows he isn’t going down without a fight. But this particular ad could have easily been run by a Dem. Not sure that helps in a Repub primary and with a very conservative electorate at that.
Looks like we’ve lost his vote till the primary. We need to pick off Snowe or Collins for everything. Shit.

gets Specter any votes in the primary. For each vote he gains with this ad, he will lose one.
He quotes Warren Buffet in his attack ad and says Toomey wants to privatize social security.
Running in a closed GOP primary? I’m starting to think he is indeed bloodying up Toomey among moderates in preparation for an independent run. We’ve got to get a strong Democrat in this race to prepare for that option, otherwise Specter probably wins with like 40% of the vote.
